Streptococcal throat infection is a group of diseases caused by a pathogenic bacterium, such as hemolytic streptococcus. Streptococci in the throat are present in all healthy people, but with an unfavorable combination of circumstances, these bacteria can cause the development of an inflammatory reaction. Diseases of this group may differ from each other for a specific type of localization and are capable of having different symptoms. Let's have a look at the effective methods of treatment, among which Amoxil is known as the most frequently prescribed drug.
It is possible to cure streptococcal pharyngitis or tonsillitis, as well as tonsillopharyngitis only with the help of antibiotics. Correctly appointed treatment is the key to a quick recovery, for which it is necessary to conduct rapid diagnosis of a variety of infection. Without carrying out diagnostics the patient is prescribed antibiotics of a wide spectrum of action, but the account of characteristic signs of a clinical picture is obligatory.
The duration of antibiotic therapy is 7-10 days.
In severe disease, administration of drugs in the form of intramuscular injections is recommended. Most often, streptococcal tonsillopharyngitis is treated with antibiotics from the penicillin group (based on Benzylpenicillin, Phenoxymethylpenicillin, Ampicillin in combination with Gentamicin). In chronic streptococcal tonsillitis, the patient is treated with protected penicillins (Flemoclav, Amoxiclav).
Amoxicilin plays a central role in the treatment of strep throat. The drug is almost completely absorbed in the small intestine, eating does not affect the absorption of amoxicillin. Absolute bioavailability of the drug depends on the dose and is in the range of 75-90%.
The maximum concentration of the drug in the blood plasma is achieved 1-2 hours after oral administration. Binding to plasma proteins is about 17%. The half-life of amoxicillin in patients with normal renal function is about 1-1.5 hours. About 60-80% of the orally taken dose of amoxicillin is excreted unchanged in the urine for 6 hours and a small amount - with bile.
Amoxicillin for strep throat is effective, since its action is directed against the bacteria that cause this disease. The medicine affects gram-positive and aerobic gram-negative bacteria, among which there are pathogens of the sore throat. In addition, Amoxicillin doesn't have many side effects compared with other antibiotics.
Advantages of Amoxicillin are the following:
• the antibiotic is certified, it is classified as one of the safest, permitted for infants;
• easily penetrates into the blood through the mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract;
• falls into all cells and tissues, actively circulating in the bloodstream;
• is aimed at combating bacterial infections;
• is permitted for use by pregnant and lactating women suffering from strep throat;
• has a reasonable price.
Amoxicillin is taken, regardless of meals but it is better to take the pill after eating. Its effect is manifested after 15-30 minutes and the effect of the action lasts 8 hours. The frequency of reception is three times a day. The duration of action is considered to be large: the drug does not decompose in an acidic environment and for a long time affects bacteria.
If you take food simultaneously with the medicine, then its effectiveness is noticeably reduced. If the disease proceeds in a mild form, then take 1 tablet of 500 mg three times a day. Thr duration of the treatment course should be prescribed by the doctor but usually with a positive effect of the drug, the duration of the treatment is limited to 7 days.
In the case of a complicated course of the disease, the dosage is increased to 750 mg or even 1 g in one dose. The frequency of administration of Amoxicillin is the same, and the duration of treatment is increased to 7-12 days.
Dosage for children:
For a child of 10 years who weighs more than 40 kg, the dosage does not differ from the one that is recommended to an adult. Children who are under 10 years of age, the drug is prescribed in smaller quantities. The medication is used for newborns, premature infants, babies, but the time between doses is longer, and the duration increases to 12 days.
Amoxicillin in children is prescribed in the following dosage:
• for a child from 5 to 10 years: 250 mg (or 5 ml of suspension);
• from 2 to 5 years: 125 mg (or 2.5 ml of suspension);
• children under 2 years: 20 mg - per kg body weight per day, i.е. approximately 3.3 mg / kg body weight per one dose.
The dose is indicated for single use, and it is taken three times a day. You can take the medicine before and after the meal. You cannot interrupt the course of taking an antibiotic or prematurely complete its reception. In this case, strains of bacteria develop on which the medicine does not work. They lead to the development of complications, the treatment of which is difficult.
